WINNING AT WIMBLEDON
The world’s most famous tennis lawn tournament, the Wimbledon Championship takes place between 2 July and 15 July 2018.
Global Parasols has been supplying and servicing parasols to this event since 2007. On average, around 70 – 100 Global Parasol umbrellas are used around the Wimbledon area every year.
Easy-to-put-up, Easy-to-move Shade and Shelter
Providing temporary shade to the large complement of security and support staff around the venue, the Tradewinds Classic parasols with green canopies provide the perfect option for easy-to-put-up and easy-to-move shelter.
These parasols are stored in tunnels under Centre Court and Court No.1 when not in use. This year, we received an emergency call from Wimbledon to urgently fix two parasols that had been eaten by mice! We collected the parasols on Tuesday, stripped, repaired and fixed overnight and returned to Wimbledon the following day!
Jumbo Parasols at Café Pergola
Our largest parasols – two x 10m jumbo parasols – are installed at Café Pergola. These super large parasols are used exclusively each year for the Wimbledon Championships.
Faced with the issue of where to store these when not in use; Wimbledon has contracted Global Parasols to store these large parasols during the 50 weeks that they are not in use. The parasols are kept off-site at our storage facility in dedicated, sealed storage containers. Two weeks prior to the tennis tournament, they are installed at Café Pergola and then returned to storage at the end of the event until they will be used again the following year.
The Members Enclosure – Custom-made Elegance
Custom-made parasols were provided to The Members Enclosure to provide an elegant and classic feel. The area is shaded with nearly forty custom-built 2.75m octagonal parasols from Global Parasols with a cream canopy and valance.
New Shade Area for 2018
New for 2018, we have supplied four 8m x 5m rectangular Uhlmann parasols to Wimbledon. These have been installed outside the new No.1 Court by the Walled Garden Food Market, providing welcoming shade from the heat to diners.
